Our second Spaces&Stories event was hosted in the amazing new office of Upvest in the heart of Berlin. Their International Facilities Manager took us on a journey, walking us through the realities of their daily operations: how they handle constant office improvements, the logistical challenges of scaling up, and how they keep their team culture consistent across different cities and countries.

We marked the last workplace community event of the year in a festive Christmas spirit. As December can be quite stressful, we calmed our senses with a practical micro-session, 'Learn to Self-Regulate Before You Go Go Go 🎄🎄🎄', and wrapped up the final speed networking session of the year with some Christmas cookies and an amazing tea tasting experience, led by John Wilken from Time For Tea.

The 4th edition of Plates&Places took place at the Contentful office and offered another amazing experience for the workplace experience community. Alongside the familiar format of a delicious dinner, stage discussion, and office tour, this time Urban Kiwi, Join Program, and thewright.site kicked off the event with comedian Stephanie DePrez, who magically transformed workplace experience stories into an entertaining comedy show.

Our July edition of Work&Place, organised by Urban Kiwi, Plantclub, and Heart(Work)Space, was part of the Growing in Berlin festival, expanding our usual focus on workplace culture into a broader conversation about plants and wellbeing. Isabella Scott opened the evening with a talk on how plants can enhance wellbeing in the workplace, followed by lively speed networking, where guests connected and exchanged in a lush, plant-filled space.

Spaces&Stories is a fresh event series by Urban Kiwi & Workplace Culture Collective, designed for the workplace community, by the workplace community, a space to gather, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. We kicked things off with SoundCloud, where their People & Workplace Team shared insights on how they’re shaping meaningful workplace experiences, followed by delicious breakfast generously sponsored by Bella&Bona.

Urban Kiwi, Join Program, and thewright.site teamed up once again to host another unforgettable Plates&Places event, this time at the playful and inspiring King office in Berlin. The evening featured a fun icebreaker, a delicious dinner, and a behind-the-scenes look at one of the city’s most imaginative workplaces, showing that bold colours can coexist beautifully and that physical offices still matter when they bring meaning and spark connection.

Urban Kiwi joined forces with Plantclub and Heart(Work)Space to host the monthly Work&Place: a speed networking, gathering for office managers, HR professionals, workplace managers, and everyone interested in workplace culture. Set in a lush, plant-filled space, the evening offered a relaxed vibe where guests could connect, share ideas, and learn from each other in a friendly and welcoming format.

Urban Kiwi partnered with Join Program and SumUp to host a workplace-focused event showcasing stylish Berlin offices. The evening brought together workplace managers for speed networking, followed by a delicious dinner and a guided tour of SumUp’s Berlin office. The event sparked meaningful conversations about workplace design and gave professionals a chance to connect, exchange ideas, and get inspired.

Urban Kiwi was invited as a guest speaker at the People&Culture Conversations: Creating Magnetic Workplaces event, hosted by Celbretti at Bonial. Alongside Heike Roesler, Chief Officer People at Bonial International GmbH and Florian Rösnick, Head of Real Estate & Facilities at MHP Porsche Company, we discussed the evolving role of workplaces in the post-pandemic world and the importance of creating spaces that attract and engage.

Katja was invited to participate in a roundtable discussion in her hometown, where she shared her experience from the entrepreneurship program she joined earlier this year. At the event, she offered valuable insights into her journey as a young entrepreneur, discussing the challenges and lessons she’s encountered while building her business. The roundtable offered valuable inspiration and hands-on advice for entrepreneurs at the beginning of their journey.

The idea for Urban Kiwi began as a master’s thesis exploring how companies in Berlin adapted their work environments during and after the pandemic. The research highlights the changing role of office spaces and their impact on well-being and culture. It shows the need to rethink office design to meet the needs of businesses and employees, offering insights into creating spaces that support better workdays in a post-pandemic world.

At the ATworld event Designed to Focus: The Space–Work Connection, Katja had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the amazing Marcelina Drozd from Heart(Work)Space and Anna Punda from Your CalmA. We discussed the many layers through which space influences our work, from the stress caused by a chaotic environment to the essential elements that make a workspace not only functional but also pleasant and supportive for employees.

Together with Join Program, Celbretti, and GetYourGuide, Urban Kiwi co-hosted a lunchtime event dedicated to workplace professionals. Guests came together for a relaxed lunch, connected through a networking session, and explored GetYourGuide’s inspiring Berlin office on a guided tour. The event created an open space for exchanging ideas, sharing perspectives, and diving into the evolving role of workplace experience.

Katja Hamler, founder of Urban Kiwi, hosted a panel at Factory Berlin focused on mental health in the workplace. Expert guests Lisa Brinks (organizational psychologist, Nulibre), Marcelina Drozd (workplace well-being facilitator, Heart(Work)Space), and Katherina Aldunate Kunstmann (founder of Dyingdonkey) shared valuable insights about fostering supportive work environments and improving mental health initiatives in the workplace.

Katja Hamler organized a panel discussion at Factory Berlin on building successful hybrid companies. The event featured expert guests Ryan Lott, Co-Founder of Enablit, Allie Beardsley, Head of People Products at GoStudent, and Evgeniya Waldner, Community & Connection Manager at Delivery Hero. The discussion sparked valuable conversations on creating effective hybrid work models and fostering engagement in flexible work environments.
